Brunei artisans are famed for their metalwork in brass, copper, or silver, ranging from huge coffee pots or trays to smaller spoons, jewelry boxes, napkin rings, and daggers. Hand-woven baskets and mats made from pandan leaves make beautiful natural souvenirs and are remarkably sturdy.
The city’s main open-air market (also known as the Ayah Market), is a place to shop for souvenirs and watch locals and their housekeepers buy fresh produce such as herbs, fruits, and vegetables for the evening meal. It’s open every day from early morning until late evening.
