No trip to Erfoud is complete without a visit to one of the many marble and fossil workshops. This section of desert was once a rich seabed filled with many types of marine creatures that no longer exist. Trilobites, urchins, ammonites, and other fossils are abundant in the local stone, and huge slabs are quarried, dissected, polished, and shaped here to create all manner of objects from tabletops to pendants. Most of the workshops give demonstrations as well as exhibit the finished articles.
This fossil showroom, workshop, and factory has English-speaking owners who are happy to show individuals and groups around the facilities. The showroom has just about every object you might imagine could be made from fossils, and there are plenty of un-"improved" fossils to go around as well. Credit cards are accepted and international shipping can be arranged.
