Metro/Public Transport

The Metro is a convenient way to get around the city—if you're staying near a Metro stop. It operates from 5 am weekdays, 7 am Saturday, and 8 am Sunday; it shuts down at 11:30 pm Monday through Thursday, 1 am Friday and Saturday, and 11 pm Sunday. Keep in mind that service disruptions for weekend work are common. The Metro's base fare is $2 but can be much higher depending on the time of day and the distance traveled. All rides now require a SmarTrip card, a rechargeable fare card that can be used throughout the Metro, bus, and parking system. Buy your SmarTrip card at a vending machine in any station; they accept cash and credit cards or debit cards. You can buy one-day passes for $13, three-day passes for $28, and seven-day passes for $58.
