Why We Like It

You know what you’re getting with the Hilton brand. The second-floor lobby is a cozy little hideaway, and the restaurant terrace is a pleasant escape as well. Even though it's not the most convenient for DC's sights, NoMa is an up-and-coming neighborhood that's fun to explore in its own right. The nearby Union Market, for example, is a foodie paradise--so much fun to explore.

Fodor's Expert Review

This relatively new hotel just north of Union Station and Capitol Hill is in DC’s up-and-coming NoMa neighborhood (for north of Massachusetts Ave.). While its good assortment of amenities includes a pool, gym, laundry room, restaurant, and 24-hour grab-and-go market, it’s not very convenient to the major sights (though you’re near a metro station). That said, it’s a good solid choice from a reliable brand for families and business travelers alike.

They’re standard Hilton Garden Inn rooms, with a neutral palette of brown and white, a patterned rug, and photos of DC’s iconic sites. Each guest room features a signature self-adjusting bed that adjusts the firmness of your mattress, work desk and ergonomic desk chair, mini-fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, easy chair and ottoman.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

The neighborhood is filled with condos and new businesses—and continues to develop (there may be traffic thanks to ongoing construction). Parking is expensive; you'd be better off leaving your car behind if at all possible. You’re one block from the New York Ave./Florida Ave./Gallaudet University metro stop, and one metro stop away from Union Station’s transportation hub.

Restaurants

Located at the thrumming Union Market, Bidwell (13-minute walk) serves up Southern-accented American eats. If you're in the mood for Indian, Indigo (9-minute walk) is a neighborhood favorite.

Bars

Wunder Garten (3-minute walk) is an outdoor Bavarian-style beer garden with picnic tables, fire pits and lawn games. For something a little more urbane, the Pub and the People (11-minute walk) was voted Washington's best neighborhood bar.
