Austin’s original nightlife hub, Sixth Street has more than a dozen blocks of live music venues, including Maggie Mae’s, the Blind Pig, Pete’s Piano Bar and Shakespeare’s Pub. Be sure to take in the architecture—most of the structures in this historic district were built before 1880. Don’t miss the famous Driskill Hotel, where President Lyndon B. Johnson and his wife dined. The Firehouse Lounge and Hostel is worth a visit if only to enter through the moving bookcase.
