The Belcourt Theatre

The Belcourt Theatre has been a Nashville institution for nearly a century, hosting, in turns, the Nashville Children’s Theatre and the Grand Ole Opry, and serving as the first “twin cinema” theater in middle Tennessee. Since its opening in 1925 as a silent movie house complete with a Kimball organ, The Belcourt has become Nashville’s premier nonprofit film center, where movie lovers can view the latest avant-garde indies, groundbreaking documentaries, and hot new releases. After a $5-million renovation project in 2016, the Belcourt boasts state-of-the-art upgrades, including a newly designed lobby, upstairs classroom space for film education and community outreach, and an additional viewing room for private film screenings. However (and luckily), some things never change: moviegoers can still enjoy a glass of wine or beer with their popcorn, and can still expect riveting post-film discussions with filmmakers and other experts. The Belcourt has also kept some of its other movie traditions, including Music Mondays, where music buffs can watch iconic biopics or films with epic sound tracks; Weekend Classics; and seasonal features, like Twelve Hours of Terror (an all-night horror marathon) and The Ornaments in Convert, where musicians play the entire score of A Charlie Brown Christmas.
