Salamanca, on the broad Allegheny River, has the distinction of being the only U.S. city on an American Indian reservation (the Allegany Indian Reservation). The region was settled by the Seneca Nation, which leases the land to the government. The small but well-executed Seneca Iroquois National Museum is worth a visit.
