The Taj is the picture of old-world, Boston Brahmin elegance.
Fodor's Expert Review
Originally built in 1927, the Taj stands guard at the corner of fashionable Newbury Street and the Public Garden. Teeming with old-school elegance, the hotel is a gilded beauty overlooking the floating Swan Boats in the Garden, and ice skaters on Boston Common's Frog Pond. Surrounded by stunning historic brownstones and top-of-the-line retail shops, the Taj is a grand dame of Boston hotels that's reminiscent of a Henry James novel. From the friendly doormen to the vibrant floral displays in the lobby, those looking for classic luxury will enjoy the Taj.
Tip If you're willing to foot the (hefty) bill, stay in a Fireside Suite. You'll get your own Fireplace Butler!

Room
Guest rooms can be a bit tired, but those who flock to the Taj tend to prefer old-world sophistication over modernity. Rooms are beautiful with classic furnishings, and feature large, flat-screen TV's and a work desk and chair. Executive Suites are located on the hotel's interior, and therefore are a bit more quiet.
You Should Know Readers beware: avoid rooms on the 16th floor, under the roof-deck party space.
