When to Go
Peak Season: June to September; November
Plan and book in advance. Kansas summers can be brutally hot (temperatures in the high 70s through low 90s) but it’s also when festivals, attractions, sporting events, and hotels pull out all the stops.
Off Season: December to April
The best hotel deals can be found this time of year. Though it’s the state’s low tourist season (snowfall is not uncommon), museums, parks, and attractions remain open—but check opening hours as these may be limited.
Shoulder Season: October; March to May
Tornado season is the real deal in Kansas from April to June, with occasional rain and high winds dampening travel, though hotel deals are plentiful. October is a quiet month before the preholiday travel rush, particularly to large cities like Kansas City.
