Money

Compared with large cities like San Francisco or New York, costs in Chicago are fairly reasonable—though the sales tax here (9.25%) is one of the highest of any U.S. city. Restaurant, event, and parking prices are markedly higher in the Loop than in other parts of Chicago.

ATMs are plentiful. You can find them in banks, grocery stores, and hotels, as well as at drugstores, gas stations, and convenience stores.

Prices throughout this guide are given for adults. Substantially reduced fees are almost always available for children, students, and senior citizens.
