Train Travel

Amtrak trains stop in Jacksonville, Daytona Beach, DeLand, Waldo, Ocala, and Palatka. Fares are extremely reasonable, and the ability to move around makes it a good way to travel with small children who tire of being strapped into car seats. In addition, the luggage policies are far more generous than those of the airlines: you can check three bags and carry on two, and purses, laptops, briefcases, strollers, and car seats don't count.

Even if you're someone who would never go anywhere without an automobile, think about the Auto Train. It carries cars, vans, motorcycles, Jet Skis, and other vehicles between Lorton, Virginia (just south of Washington, D.C.), and Sanford (25 miles north of Orlando). Prices, which include meals, vary according to your choice of sleeping accommodations, and schedules vary by season.
