Kent once held many ironworks, and today boasts the area's greatest concentration of art galleries—some nationally renowned—as well as a prep school of the same name. The Schaghticoke Indian Reservation is also here: during the Revolutionary War, 100 Schaghticokes helped defend the colonies by transmitting messages of army intelligence from the Litchfield Hills to Long Island Sound along the hilltops by way of shouts and drumbeats.
