Planning Your Time

If you have a short amount of time in the region, base yourself in Colorado Springs, or in neighboring Manitou Springs. On the first day, take the Pikes Peak Highway shuttle to the top of the mountain and explore the quirky artists' town of Manitou Springs. The following day, explore the "natural" sites, such as Cave of the Winds, Seven Falls, and Garden of the Gods. Visit the Broadmoor for a look at its palatial architecture, perhaps stopping for lunch or ending the day there in the Golden Bee. If the kids are along, try one of the outdoor settings above, then visit the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and the Ghost Town Museum. End your stint by hiking in Red Rock Canyon park or visiting Cripple Creek if you enjoy gaming. Head to the Royal Gorge in Cañon City for a crowd-pleasing view of the deep canyon and its famous suspension bridge.
