Fodor's Expert Review Hôtel Plante
137 rue Jacques-Cartier, Gaspé, Québec, G4X 1M8, Canada
What started out as a family home in the 1800s grew into a grand hotel mirroring the original, gabled house that’s still on the grounds. One ancestor, a late 19th-century U.S. consular in Gaspé, entertained envoys at the stark white residence with an azure roof and matching turrets. The hotel's rooms are spacious, especially two-story suites with kitchenettes. Some of the modern, well-appointed rooms overlook York River and the Bay of Gaspé. The property has a view of nearby Forillon National Park and the surrounding mountains.
PROS
- clean and quiet
- kitchenettes available
- excellent location
CONS
- walls not soundproof as advertised
- no restaurant
- interiors lack character
