Johnson's Mills Shorebird Reserve. The beaches here, which are on the Ramsar list of Wetlands of International Importance, are a staging area for migratory shorebirds such as semipalmated sandpipers–-more than 30% of the world population of these webbed shorebirds stops here. Their numbers are most impressive in July and August, when as many as 140,000 may be present on a single day. A Nature Conservancy interpretive center is open to coincide with high tides. Tide times are posted on the website, which also has a time-lapse film. Rte. 935, Dorchester, New Brunswick. 506/379–6347; www.natureconservancy.ca.
