When to Go
San Pedro Sula, sitting in the lowlands, is often sweltering, but temperatures become more bearable as you gain altitude. Copán Ruinas is a bit cooler. The true highlands around Santa Rosa de Copán and Gracias enjoy a pleasant springlike climate year-round, similar to Tegucigalpa's, with warm afternoons and cool evenings. Comayagua and Lago de Yojoa lie at slightly lower altitudes and are a bit warmer, but nothing like the furnace that San Pedro can be. The entire region experiences the same rainy-season/dry-season distinction that most of Honduras does. Rains arrive in May and taper off by the end of October, although the highlands around Gracias see rain well into November.
