Car Travel

Traffic can get heavy during rush hour, but driving in San Pedro Sula is a breeze compared to the gridlock in the capital. Since this is the country's most important transportation hub, streets into and out of the city are well maintained, making driving to surrounding areas a pleasure. In the more mountainous parts of the region, you will need a four-wheel-drive vehicle or a sturdy pickup.

There is no shortage of car-rental agencies in San Pedro Sula, and most have offices both in the airport and in town. Two good local companies are Maya and Molinari. There are no rental agencies elsewhere in the region.
