Banks are generally open weekdays 9 to 3. Many offices and embassies close at 3 from June to August. Stores are generally open weekdays 9 to 5 or 6 and Saturday 9 to 1 or 2. Some grocery stores are open until 11 pm on weekdays and Saturday. Most stores are closed on Sunday (by law), but small stores (under 100 square meters) and kiosks are often open.

Major holidays include: New Year's Day, Holy (Maundy) Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Monday, International Labor Day (May Day, May 1), Ascension Day (40 days after Easter), Whitsun/Pentecost (Sunday and Monday 10 days after Ascension), Constitution Day (May 17), Christmas Day, and Boxing Day (December 26).
