Room

The 83 guest rooms in this boutique hotel, close to the Vondelpark and Leidseplein, feature works of modern art mixed with more traditional touches like wood-beam ceilings, pinstriped carpets, and plaid blankets. Top-floor suites are especially posh and come with scenic views of the neighborhood.

You Should Know Beware the basement rooms, which tend to be small, damp, and dark.

Bathroom

Contemporary, if a little cramped, with walk-in rain showers (some have a shower-in-tub), monogrammed towels and The Spa Collection amenities.

Lobby

Large, with a 24-hour reception desk, wooden floors and contemporary art throughout, and a stylish sitting area with comfy couches at the front.

Dining

The restaurant Joost has a light and airy look and serves seasonal Dutch specialties. For breakfast, there’s the usual Continental offering, with eggs and pancakes to order.

Occupying a row of seven 18th-century townhouses on a quiet, residential street near Vondelpark and Leidseplein, this hotel offers good access to Amsterdam’s Museum District with the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and Stedelijk Museum, the city’s chicest shopping street P.C. Hooftstraat and the famous Leidseplein with its cafes, restaurants and, bars. From here, you can cover a cross-section of South, West, and Centrum on foot. There are also various tram stops nearby.

Sustainable seafood specialist The Seafood Bar (5-minute walk) offers smoked fish varieties from Volendam, delicately-battered fish and chips, four varieties of oyster and platters of fruits de mer. But if all you crave after all that airplane food is something simple and clean, get your chicken ramen kick at Umaimon (6-minute walk). De Foodhallen (14-minute walk), Amsterdam’s lively indoor food court, provides plenty of choice for even the pickiest of eaters with over 20 food stands.

Bars

Popular café Gollem’s Proeflokaal, a dark and cozy Belgian beer café with more than 180 bottled brews and 22 on tap, is only a 6-minute walk away. Bar Oldenhof (14-minute walk) in the nearby Jordaan offers a wide range of whiskeys and reasonably-priced cocktails (by Amsterdam standards, that is) in a bar with a nouveau gentlemen’s club vibe.
