Why We Like It

Staying at Al Teatro is a true Venetian experience, from the lovely owner (a Venice native) to being able to wave to the gondoliers sailing by. Plus getting to stay right by the canals, on a quiet side street but extremely central to all of Venice’s offerings, is an experience you won’t soon forget.

Fodor's Expert Review

This tiny and delightful B&B (with only three rooms) near La Teatro Fenice opera house is wonderfully located at the confluence of several small canals. During breakfast, friendly owner Eleanora will sit with you and mark her choices for the best local restaurants and hidden sights on a map, giving a true insider’s view on Venice.

You Should Know Guests have to navigate a set of stairs to enter the B&B, so look elsewhere if climbing may be an issue.

There’s no restaurant at Al Teatro, but an included breakfast buffet is set up in the lovely breakfast room with frescoed ceiling.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

From the Santa Maria del Giglio vaporetto stop, only a 3-minute walk away, you can sail up and down the Grand Canal and into the lagoon. Or if you’re a walker, the hotel is so central that it’s just a short stroll to many of Venice’s main sights.

Restaurants

Though the San Marco area has lots of same-same ultra-touristy places, nearby Osteria Enoteca San Marco (5-minute walk) is an exception—an elegant and contemporary Italian bistro with a fine selection of wines—and Ai Mercanti (5-minute walk) is a haven for inventive dishes at a reasonable price. For a splurge (though reviews can be mixed), the refined Italian cuisine at Michelin-starred Ristorante Quadri (8-minute walk), smack in the middle of Piazza San Marco, deserves a stop.

Bars

For some cicchetti (bar snacks) and wine, Enoteca al Volto (6-minute walk) is a great place to go. Try a Bellini cocktail at the place it was invented, Harry’s Bar (6-minute walk), or enjoy wonderful Piazza San Marco views at Caffè Florian (7-minute walk).
