Why We Like It

This family-run budget hotel prides itself on first-class service. Being in a residential area, you'll avoid the "tourist tax" of many dining establishments, but you'll still be central to the Vatican as well as public transportation to explore the old city. While rooms are nothing fancy, the wide balconies and cozy furnishings make this a comfortable place to spend the night.

Fodor's Expert Review

Across the river from Piazza del Popolo on a quiet side street in the Prati neighborhood, this intimate, unpretentious hotel offers friendly service and simple, pleasant rooms. Immaculately maintained facilities including a garden and sun terrace for breakfast or a relaxed moment. Rooms have pleasant, neutral-tone decor, with modern furnishings with hard-wood floors.

Tip Hotel Gerber is in a quiet location, away from the hustle and bustle in a residential area so perfect for those happier being in a quieter area.

Room

Rooms have high-quality furniture and linens. Decor is done in relaxing monotone beige and taupe. Many rooms are on the small side with not much floor space. While the furnishings are a bit dated, they're clean and beds are very comfortable. All come with free Wi-Fi, a minibar, satellite TV and a safe.

Tip Ask for a room with a balcony, essential for added space and a gorgeous morning view of Rome's domed rooftops.

Bathroom

Bathrooms have immaculate beige tiles and a shower or tub. They are on the small side, and some are not well-lit. Shampoo is included but for the rest you're on your own.

Lobby

A rounded seating area is still right out of the 1960s, with ferns, marble green flooring, and a circular sofa lining the oak walls. There are plenty of newspapers and magazines to relax in the morning. The front desk concierge is available 24 hours for assistance and is helpful with booking and tours or other tickets you may require. There's a small seating area with sofas where you can relax or plan your day.

Dining

A continental breakfast is served, offering freshly-baked cakes and pastries, as well as deli meats and cheeses. Fill up on the hot coffee before heading out to the Vatican.
