While residents will eat and drink outside until all hours of the night, you can retreat back into this peaceful and private hotel which will feel like your own secret retreat after a long day of sightseeing.
Fodor's Expert Review
In the heart of Trastevere but tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the medieval quarter, this cheap, clean, comfortable hotel in a former monastery is centered on a lovely green courtyard. The monastery was built in the 15th century to honor St. Francesca Romana, and guest rooms are accordingly simple, with cheerful pastel-yellow-and-cream-color walls and simple tiled floors. There isn't much on the amenities front aside from a TV room and a reading room, but for the money and location, this is a fabulous choice. There's a wonderful array of mom-and-pop trattorias nearby.
You Should Know Although there is WiFi on property, it is often very spotty. The best signal is in the lobby.

Room
Rooms are simple and dated but charming, classic wood furniture and patterned drapes. Tiled floors help keep the rooms cool and clean. All rooms come with tea/coffee service and a safe. A/C in rooms can run quite loud so you may just want to throw open the windows at night.
You Should Know Pillows and mattresses are quite old, so if you are a fickle sleeper you may not be the most comfortable here.
Bathroom
Bathrooms are small but bright and clean with white tiling. Hairdryers and soaps are included.
You Should Know Two rooms in the hotel have a shared bathroom so confirm ahead of time if this is an issue for you.
Lobby
The lobby is bright and large with minimal seating and a large front desk. The front desk staff is very knowledgeable and can help you with any questions you may have about the city.
Dining
Guests can eat breakfast in the courtyard. There's a wide assortment of sweet and savory finds on offer.

Restaurants
Meridonale (8-minute walk) is a wonderful family restaurant. It's hard to go wrong with your order, but the lamb is particularly tasty. For delicious kosher food, head to Nonna Betta (11-minute walk) for the fried artichokes. The walls are covered in frescoes scenes of 19th-century ghetto.
