Room
Spare, contemporary rooms are on the small side (and backlit headboards a bit odd), but they check off all the boxes as far as cleanliness and comfort.
Tip Rooms with balconies over the garden offer a nice bucolic "out of the city" feel that's especially nice in this lively neighborhood. Get one.
Bathroom
Contemporary grey-tiled baths offer all the amenities plus nice-sized walk-in showers with good water pressure. Shelf space is lacking, but all in all, you'll be satisfied—unless of course, you require a tub.
Lobby
The unprepossessing lobby feels a bit like, well, a hotel lobby, made even less inviting by the vending machine. On the other hand, it's nice to have access to soft drinks at odd hours when convenience stores are closed and there's no in-room minibar. If you find yourself having to wait, there's colorful seating and thumbed-through guidebooks to peruse.
Dining
A standard buffet breakfast is served in the basement breakfast room, but you're welcome to take your coffee in the garden weather permitting.
Tip Nearby Boot Café (19 rue du Pont aux Choux) is an adorable place for an excellent cup of coffee if you can snag one of its two tables (four on warm days). Or you could head over to Maison Plisson, a 5-minute walk down Blvd Beaumarchais, or Jeanne A for a gourmet breakfast.

Getting Around
About two minutes from the Oberkampf metro station and five minutes to Filles du Calvaires station. Republique, about 10 minutes away, is a metro hub. This is a wonderful residential area between three chic young neighborhoods—the Marais, Oberkampf, and Parmentier—full of cafés, restaurants, bars, shopping, you name it. You're also within easy walking distance of super museums the Canal St-Martin, Bastille and the Ile Saint-Louis.
Restaurants
There's A LOT to choose from around here, but right in the neighborhood here's some we love: adorable Jeanne A is open all day and offers has good-value breakfast, charcuterie and cheese plates for lunch or a snack, and an excellent rotisserie chicken and other French delights for dinner. At the concept store Merci, a must-visit for chic shoppers, there are three cafés, all good, but the charming basement restaurant serves some of the city's best vegetarian in front of a lovely garden. For sweets, La Bague de Kenza a few minutes away at 106 Rue Saint-Maur, is tops for sinfully delicious pastries from the Maghreb, and for a gourmet chocolate hit, Jacques Genin is among the city's best, and you can have some wicked hot chocolate and a divine pastry (eat-in only) in his super-stylish tea salon. Keep it under your hat, but on nearby Passage St-Sebastian, Au Passage is one of the best-value gastro-bistros around.
Bars
Pasdeloup, a couple minutes away on Rue Amelot, you'll find stylish, well-priced craft cocktails and a lively back room scene. But the ever-popular Le Perchoir, about 10 minutes away, offers the liveliest scene and one of Paris's best outdoor terraces with to-die-for views of the city. Candelaria and Le Mary Celeste, a 5 to 10-minute walk away in the Marais, are two of Paris's best cocktail bars.
