Planning Your Time

Yorkshire is a vast region and difficult to explore in a short amount of time. If you're in a hurry, you could see the highlights of York or Leeds as a day trip from London; the fastest trains take just two hours. But it's an awful lot to pack into one day, and you're bound to leave out places you'll probably regret missing. Proper exploration—especially of the countryside—requires time and effort. In a few days you could explore York and some highlights such as Castle Howard and Studley Royal Park. You need the better part of a week to take in the small towns, abandoned abbeys, and inspiring moors and coast. It's well worth it: this is the path less traveled. The York Pass (www.yorkpass.com), good for one, two, or three days, can save you money on more than 30 attractions, but check it against your itinerary.
