Why We Like It

The heart of the West End, there aren’t many better locations in London in which to be based. Ideal for couples, the hotel is a charming den of great design that will leave you with a serious case of interiors envy, while the mix of surrounding bars, restaurants and culture offer one of the best examples of London living.

Fodor's Expert Review

Set back from the street in a quiet mews in one of central London’s most iconic neighborhoods, the Soho Hotel has been charming guests with an eye for design and a taste for good cocktail for years. Part of the Firmdale chain co-owned by designer Kit Kemp, the hotel brings a playful charm to its interiors, from the giant cat you’ll meet in the lobby to the color blocked walls and pillars throughout. Idea for couples, it’s a romantic hotel surrounded by great restaurants, bars, and nightlife.

Room

96 individually designed rooms carry the signature Kit Kemp look of muted colors, wacky textiles, quirky artwork, and the odd dressmaker’s mannequin. The design can’t be faulted and what you’ll find in all rooms is a homely kind of chic that you won’t want to leave behind.

Bathroom

Bathrooms are kept simple, embracing a less is more approach with plenty of soothing grey granite and oak. RikRak toiletries are provided for the walk-in showers found in most rooms.

Tip Can’t decide whether to upgrade to a suite? The bath tub TV might just swing it.

Lobby

Compared to the frantic hustle of Soho, arriving here is bliss. The lobby is calm, quiet, and relaxed with no scene to speak of unless you decide to hang a right and enter the super-sceney hotel bar—but that’s another matter.

Gym

The Soholistic Gym and Spa combines specialist therapies, massages, pedicures, and manicures with a well-equipped gym complete with a range of weights and machines.

Dining

Large comfortable chairs and springy booths upholstered in bold, chic textiles find room between the statement pillars that section off the bar and the restaurant. It’s a good-looking place to eat from the contemporary European menu that always delivers a fine Dover sole.

You Should Know Due to the popularity of the Refuel Bar at the Soho Hotel, space is a premium. If vying for tables with non-guests in search of cocktails is beneath you then the bar might get on your nerves.

Drinking

If you can find space between the Soho media industry types and those in the know about the Refuel Bar’s cocktail game, then you can enjoy the buzzy atmosphere here. Tables are difficult to snag but worth the wait to enjoy drinks in one of Soho’s most dashing hotel bars—with a notable celebrity following.

Cinema

The weekly Soho Hotel Film Club screens new releases every Sunday in the building’s state of the art cinema.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Located in the heart of Soho, getting around is easy, with a range of shops, theatres, galleries, and restaurants reachable on foot. Oxford Street, Covent Garden, Piccadilly Circus, and Trafalgar Square are all around a ten-minute walk. Soho can get busy so if you want to leave it behind for a while, make the trip to the redeveloped Tottenham Court Road Underground station for excellent connections.

Restaurants

In a clear signal of Soho’s gentrification, you’ll find the cool, no-bookings restaurant Spuntino (5-minute walk) in an area that was once filled with sex shops. Who knows what these shops sold previously, but Spuntino now serves a mean Reuben sandwich. For sheer opulence, head to the amazing Bob Bob Ricard (7-minute walk), a British-Russian hybrid where tables come with a button for Champagne and the chicken Kiev is the only choice for dinner.

Bars

There are literally hundreds of bars to choose from in the neighbourhood but refined, cocktail bar, the Blind Pig (5-minute walk) is always a worthy place to sample a drink amongst the vintage decor. Alternatively, do like a Soho local and opt for a timeless old pub with nondescript ales and bags of charm in the form of the Blue Posts (4-minute walk).
