Hotels and Resorts

The island, though small, is well developed—some say overdeveloped—and offers a wide range of lodging. The larger resorts and time-shares are mostly on the Dutch side; the French side has more intimate properties. Just keep in mind that the popular restaurants around Grand Case, on the French side, are a long drive from most Dutch-side hotels. French-side hotels often charge in euros. Be wary of very low–price alternatives, as some of these can be run-down time-shares, short-term housing for temporary workers, or properties used by very low-end tour companies. Additionally, note locations very close to the airport to avoid unpleasant, noisy surprises. In general, the newer a property, the better.
