Train Travel

Four trains per day (from 6 am to early evening) leave Hanoi bound for Haiphong from one of two stations: Hanoi Railway Station (Ga Hanoi) and Long Bien Station. Tickets for all trains can be purchased at the Hanoi Railway Station, but you must ask at the ticket booth whether your train leaves from there or from Long Bien Station. The cost is 90,000d for travel in a soft sleeper carriage and 115,000d for travel in an air-conditioned soft sleeper carriage. The unspectacular trip takes just over two hours. There are two stations in Haiphong. The first, Thuong Li Railway Station, is west of the city. You should detrain at the Haiphong Railway Station, which is the end of the line on the Hanoi route.
