Fodor's Expert Review Enju
Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.
The grand exterior and pristine banquet rooms are somewhat uninviting and overly formal at this upscale restaurant in the quiet surroundings of Shirokanedai (five minutes by taxi from Shinagawa), but the tables overlooking the 300-year-old Japanese garden provide a tranquil backdrop for an unforgettable meal. Yes, the views are stunning, but it's the food that draws locals and visitors again and again. Among the costly, seasonally changing prix-fixe dinners are kaiseki and sushi. Go in the afternoon for more affordable options, such as the three-course lunch (¥1,800) and kaiseki samplers (from ¥3,800). For more casual dining, the organic-focused Café Thrush, in the same complex, has an open-air terrace with a stunning view of the garden.
