Why We Like It

Well, it’s huge. It has a bowling alley. You can play tennis and golf inside. And there’s an aquarium with dolphin shows. Basically, if you decide to stay in this further afield spot, you may as well get yourself a hotel with literally everything. While the rooms aren’t winning any awards and the crowds inside are a little maddening, it’s a small price to pay to keep your family members entertained at all hours of the day.

Fodor's Expert Review

Families looking for the ultimate entertainment and hospitality packages would do well at the Prince Hotel Shinegawa. Set cross four sprawling towers, the hotel not only has over 3,000 guest rooms, but an IMAX Theater, an aqua park, a bowling alley, arcade, a concert hall, two swimming pools, nine indoor tennis courts, and an indoor driving range. But that’s not all! There are 13 restaurant and bar outlets including an entire food court and a karaoke bar. The hotel itself feels a little dated, but you might not notice when you’re being endlessly entertained.

Room

Spread across all four towers, the mostly drab rooms have simple brown and beige interiors and come with water, tea, and cheap slippers. Views from the higher floors are exceptional. If you sleep in the East Tower, all the rooms are singles and are miniscule.

Bathroom

Some of the nicer bathrooms are decked out with jade tiles, automated washlet toilets, and shower/bathtub combinations. Bath products are courtesy of Pola.

Lobby

Generally speaking, the entire complex is confusing and a little tricky to navigate. There are four towers and lobbies within each. You're better off hanging out in other parts of the hotel.

Pool

There is an indoor lap pool and an outdoor pool that’s only open in the summer. Keep in mind that there’s a 1,050 Yen fee for use of the facilities and if you have tattoos you can’t swim.

You Should Know Make sure to check the pool calendar as there are usually classes and lessons at various times of the day.

Spa

The Beauty and Relaxation Corner can be found on the 2nd floor of the Annex Tower. Here, men and women can indulge in foot massages and nail care.

Gym

Inside the Takanawa Tennis center is a gym with a variety of cardio machines and free weights. Here you’ll also discover the nine indoor tennis courts and the 14 stations for golf enthusiasts.

Tip The tennis courts are actually open 24-hours on Fridays and days before holidays.

Dining

There are so many restaurant options here that it would be hard to choose. But check out Dining & Bar Table 9, which has 9 different concepts all in one spot including Tokyo fusion, Grill & Steak, and even a chef’s table. For something a little more casual, check out the Curry Shop Sher that serves scorchingly hot curry dishes.

Drinking

At Dining & Bar Table 9 you’ll find the Nine Bar, a whiskey bar, and a cocktail bar. If you want sing while you drink, head over to Karaoke Yamanote-sen, a karaoke bar with 24 rooms and over 95,000 songs.

Event Space

Aqua Park Shinagawa is more than just an aquarium, but a live event space with choreographed dolphin shows (and you thought Sea World was bad). The Stellar Ball meanwhile, is a live concert hall that can fit more than 1,800 people.

Activities

Beyond the golf and tennis facilities, there’s also an enormous bowling alley and arcade. Inside, you’ll see 80 lanes of bowling madness and an entire arcade if the kids get bored knocking down pins.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Shinagawa is on the south side of the city, away from the major city hubs, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find great restaurants, bars, attractions, and shopping in the vicinity. The hotel is also a 2-minute walk from the Shinagawa Subway Station so it’s easy to get to the rest of the city as well.

Restaurants

Noodle lovers can’t go wrong with Oniyamma (5-minute taxi) where a standing-room-only crowd of slurpers devour delicious udon. You probably never thought you’d have Chicago style pizza in Tokyo – but if you check out DevilCraft Gotanda (6-minute taxi) you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Bars

Mash Tun (15-minute subway) is a whiskey-lovers favorite not to be missed. HO-bar (10-minute taxi) is for oenophiles who want a more refined night of drinking.
