Solar Undersea Walk. Non-divers who wish to explore the island's turquoise waters can actually walk underwater, wearing a see-through helmet that's attached to an air supply. Mauritius pioneered underwater sea walks with solar-powered Undersea Walk, one of the oldest and most reliable outfitters. The 90-minute excursion involves a boat trip to the best snorkeling areas, instruction, and an instructor-led descent of about 4 meters (13 feet) to the ocean bed to walk among the fishes. The walk lasts about 25 minutes and is suitable for most adults as well as children over 7. Another innovative way to explore the not-so-deep depths is on a Scuba-Doo, a self-propelled diving vehicle that resembles a motor scooter. Scuba-Doo is in the Trou Au Biches region, on the island's northwest tip. Coastal Rd., Rivière du Rempart. 230/263–7819; www.solarunderseawalk.com. 1,485 MUR. Excursions are 10:30 and 1:30 daily.
