If you’re looking to get more biodiversity bang for your buck then you definitely need to find your way to Atauro Island. Conservation International has determined that the small island’s waters are the most biodiverse in the world. Located off the coast of Timor-Leste, Atauro Island’s thousands of reefs are home to 643 species with an average of 253 reef fish species per site. Given the lack of predatory fish, there is a push for the area to be protected with the hope of developing the site as an ecotourism destination.
