Savanah GA

Has anyone stayed at the Roussell's Garden, Catherine Ward inn, 17Hundred90 Inn or Savanah Bed and Breakfast Inn? If so, any critiques? and /or suggestions for a quaint BnB that won't break the bank!!! Graduation present for my niece!

Hi Howdey,

I stayed at the 1790 Inn back in December 2012. I thought the place was charming with a decent continental breakfast spread; there's a restaurant and small bar downstairs with friendly staff. I was pleased that it was centrally-located for exploring the Historic District. The only thing negative I can think is that the mobility-impaired would have trouble with the stairs.

I'm pretty easy to please though with accommodation (I sleep soundly generally) so read the Trip Advisor reviews before deciding.

Best wishes, Daniel

The 17hundred90 is in a good location.

Also look at the Eliza Thompson House.

Roussell's Garden is on the other side of Forsyth Park. I would NOT recommend that location.

The Eliza Thompson House is on the prettiest street in Savannah. Around the corner from Monterrey Square and the Mercer Williams House. Steps away from the SCAD store (315 feet actually). Close to fun restaurants and beautiful sights. Highly recommend it!

Hello Howdey,

I second Starrs' recommendation. My uncle and his girlfriend stayed at the Eliza Thompson House and it seemed very charming with a handsome courtyard with well-chosen vegetation, as well as a warm & gracious staff. I also remember thinking that Jones Street, where it's located, is one of the most beautiful streets in the Historic District.

Have fun deciding! Daniel

Jones is special -
"lovely Jones Street, named “the prettiest street in America” by Southern Living Magazine"

It's 404 feet from the best southern cooking restaurant you'll find anywhere - Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room (former boarding house, cash only, open for weekday lunches) -

Around the corner from my favorite square...but now I'm repeating myself.

Definitely my seconding for Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room. As you can see, it is homecooking and family style with delicious Southern dishes passed around the table. A highlight for me in our visit. And there are a few rooms available? Checking the website I can envision myself at that very table shown.

Yes, there are now some rentals at Mrs. Wilkes. For decades it was a boarding house and recently (not sure when) they started renting apartments. Don't know the details.

It looks like one apartment - the one Mrs. Wilkes lived in -

That would be a FABULOUS gift!

I travel to Savannah several times a year. You should go to Mrs Wilkes Resturant like Starrs recommends and go with a big appetite. There are lots of nice hotels in Savannah but I have small kids and generally will rent a house with a pool from Southern Belle Vacation Rentals www.southernbellevacationrentals.com

Some of my favorite restaurants are Garibaldis, The Old Pink House, Vicks on the River. There are some Chain restaurants Downtown as well but I prefer the local Flair.
