I would like to pack in Ziploc bags. ( in an appropriate duffle bag ) (also what duffle bags do you like ) Are Ziploc bags allowed? I have heard from friends that the rules have changed for 2018. This is my first trip on a safari and I would like to pack the most efficient way possible.. Any advice would be so helpful.

Yes, you can pack your clothes in Ziploc bags and put them in a duffle bag.

I have several different size duffles (both wheeled and over the shoulder) from Osprey and REI that have served me very well for years but there are many brands that are very good.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of reputable brands, sizes and configurations of duffles. They come in all price ranges from flimsy bargain basement duffles to very high end/high quality duffles. Your best bet is to go to one of your local outdoor/camping store to actually look at some different models and choose a design, size and quality level that fits your needs. While you don't necessarily need a very top of the line brand you probably should opt for quality over price. You'll be able to tell right away which ones are good and which are garbage.

Kenya has recently banned all single use plastic bags, but my understanding is that at the moment they are targeting manufacturers and importers. We travelled to Kenya in late September just after the ban had been announced. At the airport it appeared that a large clear bag--larger than a garbage bag--had been confiscated and an announcement was made that plastic bags were banned, but there was no inspection of luggage that I could see. Nor did we hear anything more about it on our travels.

There was a lot of plastic garbage along some roads we travelled and but little, although some, in the vastness of the Serengeti. I commend the Kenyans for wanting to reduce this problem. Since you are required to stay in your vehicle in all national parks anything that blows into or is dropped there will stay unless a ranger happens to come across it.

I recommend you respect the ban and take only a couple of heavy duty reusable plastic bags for wet and muddy clothing. You can get sets of packing bag/cubes etc. which are lightweight and useful for keeping things organized.

It would have been better if you had posted this on the Africa board -- where there have been a couple of threads explaining the plastic bag ban.

Even if they are not targeting visitors, I personally would follow the ban. No need to take plastic bags.
