Germany Bavaria Itinerary and Hotel/VBRO suggestions

We have a 7 day trip to Bavaria, Germany at the end of June. We are flying to Munich and hoping to rent a car and go base for 3 days near Garmisch, then drive down towards Rothenburg ob der Tauber / Nuremberg and base for 2 days to visit those areas. Next we would drive back to Munich for 2 days to base there and take in the Munich sites. For those of you that know the area, does this sound like a reasonable itinerary? Do you have any suggestions for a VBRO /Airbnb or hotel in or around these areas? There will be 8 of us (4 parents and 4- 18 year olds) coming from the US. Thanks for your help!

There are oodles of vacation rentals in Garmisch since its a ski destination. I recommend getting something walkable to the town center so that the group can come and go at will without driving. Garmish is a great base for the area in June. On a nice day I highly recommend taking a cable car up the mountain thats quite near the town and either hiking / picnic near the top, or make a longer trek and hike down. In June the fields are alive.

Look up Ferienwhonung Garmish for local listings, or a site like booking dot com.

No. Hausberg, peak at 1300m. The Zugspitze at close to 3000m is far taller and it’ll still be icy at the top. The Hausbergbahn is 5min drive or bus from Garmish center and on a nice day it’ll be lovely on top. There is hiking at the top and hiking trails to wind your way back down to the base.

Gotcha. Planning a return to the area in summer 2025, will have to make note of that one.

The group might also enjoy the long walk around Eibsee, at the bottom of the Zugspitze.

We stayed in Fussen for four nights in 2014 because of the castles there. It's maybe not quite as busy as Garmisch. We enjoyed the town. This whole area is very pleasant by car.
