Hallstatt in January

Hi,
We are planning a weekend trip to Salzburg and Hallstatt on Jan 20 2022. My first question is, would it be a good time to visit? Another question is about cafes. Would they be open? The weather would most probably cold for sure but I have seen lovely photos of Hallstatt in winter as well so fingers crossed. I know certain attractions might be closed but we just want to see the scenery and have a walk around. Looking forward to hear your suggestions.

We visited in December in 2018 and were surprised at how busy it was considering the time of year (and there were no Christmas markets, so that wasn't the reason). We had no issues finding an open cafe for lunch.

It was cold, damn cold, but the town was plenty lively.

Gorgeous photos, thanks! But it does look cold - I was there in June and it wasn't exactly hot then.

People of Hallstatt are soooooooo happy that they are eventally liberated from all the tourist hordes that entered
and littered their gardens and even their houses without asking before, took pictures from everybody and everything and made the life of locals to a hell... Please let them in peace!!!

Many of the people in Halstatt are able to live and work in that beautiful town because of those tourists. But yes, we are embarassed to be around other tourists who can be loud, rude and disrespectful. We have been there on a warm late September day and in sleet on a mid October day. We much preferred September.
