One day in Cozumel - Chichen Itza?

Saw posts from 2003 telling that it is impossible to get to Chichen Itza from Cozumel while in port for one day on a cruise ship. Wondered if a new highway or anything else has made a private tour feasible. Would so love to go!.

It depends how much time you have in port. Of course it is possible and always was unless you have to be back early afternoon or don't get off the boat very early. The ferry is about an hour and leaves about hourly. The drive is about2 hours by toll roads. So you could have several hours there If you don't need to be back on the ship until evening.

Get a small private van tour company like YucaTreks to meet you at thr ferry dock in Playa del Carmen and drive you to the ruins and back.
We didn't enjoy Chichen Itza as much as Ek Balam and Coba. Having been, I wouldn't put the kind of effort required, a grueling day at the very least, into getting to CI, but the others may not be any closer.

Given the time it takes with ferry boat to Playa, then bus to Chichen Itza, this is a time when I highly recommend doing this excursion through the ship. If running late, your group will get priority to board the ferry back to Cozumel, so you will make it back to the ship on time.

It doesn't take much to run late and miss the ship.....
