Bocas ??

We are considering traveling to Panama in February. Trying to decide between Bocas and San Blas. We enjoy some beach time, but are pretty active and enjoy snorkeling, boating to other islands, good food, but not crowds or parties. We've read good things about Garden of Eden on Isla Solarte, so the hotel is on its own small island. Anyone been there? I believe it's near Red Frog Beach and Zapatillas Island, which sound fun. Please provide any information about Bocas in general or this area in particular. Were you wowed by this area or was it just ok?
Thanks very much in advance.

I just got back from Panama. Incidentally, I didn't go to either Bocas or San Blas, but my sister lives near Panama City so she and her husband have travelled a lot and we were talking about their travels to both of these areas (planning our future visits!).

According to them, San Blas is VERY quiet and rustic - think huts on the beach with sand floors, and dinner is included because there are no restaurants for you to get your own. You will be served the catch of the day, so if you don't like seafood (or simple, rustic accommodations), this might not be the place for you. On the other hand, the beaches are gorgeous and the snorkelling apparently stellar (they don't permit scuba, which was a deal-breaker for me).

For Bocas, there are certainly out-of-the-way places like the ones you found - when I was considering that destination, that was the type of place I looked for. The beaches are just as gorgeous, albeit less deserted than San Blas (though still not packed if you venture away from the crowds). Snorkelling maybe not quite as good, and thoroughly average scuba, apparently.

Based on your description of what you're looking for, though, I would definitely recommend Bocas - in San Blas, your options are snorkel or chill on a beach. The Bocas area would have more options for things to do.

Hi, we are also considering a trip in February. Would we fly to Panama City and drive to Bocas? I understand it is a 9 hour drive, and not easy...my sister gets car sick with winding roads...We are looking to snorkle and San Blas sounds good. Any recommendations?
