Which island to visit in late September/early October?

Hi everyone..hope everybody is enjoying their summers so far. I need some advice and suggestions as to which Caribbean island/s would be your top choice to visit for a total-relax, beach vacation with family (me-hubby-our 5-yo) during the last week of September or first week of October considering the weather as well as flight ease (non-stop) from philly/Newark? Do you see any chances of finding the dream vacation destination with turquoise waters, white sandy tranquil beaches, and 5-star service resort at that period? Many thanks in advance for the help!

September and October is the height of Hurricane Season in the Caribbean so many resorts are closed or operating with reduced staff. That's the bad news. The good news is that the resort's that are open have some of their lowest room rates of the year.

While the odds of encountering a hurricane on any given island during any given week are small it is a risk you have to contend with. Certain islands like Barbados (because it is further east than most other Caribbean island) and the islands from St. Lucia and south are less prone to getting storms but there are never any guarantees when it comes to predictions when and where Mother Nature will direct her storms.

So bottom line, if you are willing to take the risk of having to cancel your trip because of a storm you certainly can visit just about any island in the Caribbean in September or October.

If you want a 5-star resort you'll have to do a bit of calling around to see if the particular resort will be open the week you want to visit.

For upscale resorts look at Sandy Lane on Barbados, Four Seasons on either Nevis or Anguilla, Ledara or Ames Chastinet on St. Lucia, Jumby Bay or Carlisle Bay on Antigua, Amanyara or Parrot Cay in the Turks & Caicos, Caneel Bay on St. John, Peter Island Resort, Peter Island, BVI, La Samana on St. Martin, Eden Roc on St. Barths.

The ABC s. Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao. Though chances are low that you will get hit anywhere. My absolute favorite island is Anguilla though at that time of the year, and for you family, I would choose Aruba. It's a fun island and good weather is almost a given. Look into the Hyatt on Palm Beach. But if you do choose Anguilla as was mentioned above..I would suggest Manoah on Shoal Bay East. Cap Juluca on Maundays Bay or Frangipani on Meads Bay. Four Seasons is great but too big and modern for my taste. The others are just as nice yet more intimate.

With all factors considered, you can do some research on Negril in Jamaica. That part of the Island in my opinion has the most beautiful white sand beaches.

You have the large all inclusive hotels as well as smaller boutique hotels. Some of these cater to families.

If you choose that part of the Island there are numerous activities on the west end of the Island. You can visit the cliffs you can walk along the seven stretch for shopping experience. It is relatively easy to get around, there are route taxis as well as private charters.
