Help, we need guidance on an upcoming trip itinerary. We fly into Bangor, Maine on Sept. 21 and will head for Moncton for the night, the next day we will explore PEI, after that we don't have any plans but need to fly out of Plattsburg, NY on Sept. 29th. Any thoughts on NS, NB and Quebec?

Call me boring but with 20 hours of driving during the trip I would spend three nights in Charlottetown/North shore of PEI, one night on the way to Quebec City, three nights in/around QC and then drive to Plattsburg.

It's a beautiful time of year to be outside, not packing and unpacking, driving from place to place.

Great suggestion. Do you have a suggestions of an overnight location between Charlottetown and Quebec City or Montreal?

You have zeroed in on the weak part of my suggestion. When I am doing this drive I am basically trying to get between Ottawa/Montreal/Quebec City and Charlottetown/Halifax. So my stop is just a place to break up the drive. I usually stop in Grand Falls, New Brunswick or the odd time Rivière-du-Loup.

Perhaps someone else has a good suggestion. Have a nice trip.

OK, so, boiling this down... you awaken in/near Moncton on Sept. 22... and it might make sense to arrive in <U>Montreal</U> sometime on the 26th of Sept. (spend a sensible 2 nights there, and then drive south on the 28th, making sure you can leave from Plattburgh on the 29th)

Working <b>backward</b>, it stands to reason that you would spend <I><u>at least</u></i> the night of Sept. 25th <b>in Quebec City</b>... (so it doesn't make sense to take the time to see all of the usual things in Nova Scotia).

First of all, coinciding with your Moncton... map out <b>the tide times at <U>Hopewell Cape</u></b> for an obligatory visit there at <b>LOW</b> tide.

Only AFTER you've done that, should you go on to PEI... <I>and I'd be so sad IF you didn't get to Nova Scotia at all... so I say take a drive down to Parrsboro and surrounds, at least.</i>

(marvel there at the fact that <b>as much water flows through the channel between Parrsboro and Cape Split in a given day <u>as flows through ALL</u> of the rivers on earth <u>COMBINED</U> in the same day</b


So, mapping it out


<b>Night</b> of:

21 Moncton area
22 Charlottetown area
23 Fredericton, maybe?? (after a trip to Parrsboro perhaps?)
(alternately, maybe ferry from PEI to Pictou, and just drive through NS back toward Moncton, <I>just to say you've BEEN there</i

(and now, be<U>cause</u> I plotted the rest first, the night of the <b>24th fits best if spent in <I>Riviere-du-Loup</i></b>... making for a 4-hour drive from Fredericton, and a 2hr 20 min drive from Riviere-du-Loup to Quebec City - you can arrive early enough to make something of that first day in QC)

27 Montreal
28 Plattsburgh, NY

Unfortunately <I>the tides</i> will NOT be kind to you during that window.

The most sensible time to see the <b>LOW tide at Hopewell Cape</b> will be at 8:30 am on Sept. 22.

The other low tides happen <u>after dark</u> on surrounding days.

<b>SO perhaps that urges you to <U>find lodging much nearer to Hopewell Cape than to Moncton</u>, to perhaps force yourself out of bed in time to get to the 'Cape near to 8:30am</b>.
