New Jersey to Quebec City

We will be traveling from NJ to Quebec city where we are staying for 4 days. I would like to stop on the way back for a few days somewhere. Any suggestions. Towns with historical sites, museums, art scene all good. Thinking of Montreal (old town) for a day . Any ideas would be good. Thanks for your input in advance!!

Montreal is definitely worth at least a few days, it's a great city. The Old City in Montreal is fun, but so is the rest of the city, particularly the Plateau which is sprinkled with fun little BYOB restaurants with outdoor patios, funky shops and nice parks. You could also do a night or two in the Eastern Townships, a rural area just east of Montreal known for it's vast farms, wineries, apple orchards and great bicyling. Another good stop (I assume you'll be driving the NY Thruway) would be Saratoga Springs NY.

To get back to the States, you almost pass Montreal... it's well worth a stop...
