need accommodation suggestions for Banff and Jasper
My spouse and I are planning to visit Banff and Jasper National Parks in late September, 2017 or early Oct, 2017. Can we get suggestions for inexpensive accommodations for these places? We can not do camping; perhaps a hotel/motel room, cabin, bed & breakfast. My only requirement in addition to inexpensive and clean is a private toilet/shower in the room. Thank you.

At this point, your choices are likely to be very limited. Peak season in the parks is likely to last until our Thanksgiving which is October 9 this year.
Accommodations have been heavily booked for many months, especially those in the more budget range. Also given the limited options for accommodations in the parks, prices tend to be high - an average hotel room is $250-300 and the cheaper ones book first. So inexpensive is relative- finding anything under $200 per night would be very inexpensive.
Your best bet is to book ASAP and be flexible. Jasper is likely to be the hardest as there is other real option for accommodation in the area.
If you want a private bathroom, most hostels are out, so the next best options are likely to be Private Home Accommodations (Jasper version of B&Bs). You can search at www.stayinjasper.com -- you'll likely need to call or e-mail until you find a place. Most tend to have 2-3 night minimum stays, and at this point, your best bet is to look mid week and avoid holidays (i.e Thanksgiving weeekend). Price will depend on amenities and whether the washroom is shared - probably $100-150 and up for private washroom in a pretty basic place, more expensive for the nicer places.
For Banff NP, your best bet would likely be in Canmore. There are B&Bs, condos and hotels though the two latter could easily be $250-300 per night. Both hostels also would have rooms with private facilities, though I suspect those at Hi Canmore are booked (i.e. Boswell Cabin - and you'd have to book both bedrooms in the unit for the washroom to be yours alone).
In Banff and Lake Louise, all legal accommodations can be searched at www.banfflakelouise.com. Hi Banff has some rooms with private washrooms. Hi Lake Louise has private rooms, but I think while some have their own washroom, none has a private shower. They range up to $160-170 per night.
Not much else at all cheap in Lake Louise -- that will be peak time for larch fever and with only a handful of hotels, demand far outstrips availability. So not cheap.
In Banff, the Banff Centre can be quite reasonable - $210-300 per night. The YWCA in Banff is quite inexpensive, though not all rooms have private washrooms. B&Bs may be cheaper, though often the cheaper rooms may have shared facilities.
